Motivational Image: "Discovery Deadlift"
When coming up with the idea behind my project, I really focused on my interests and current experiences. As a study abroad student from the United States, my time studying in Zürich has meant so much more than just school. I have been able to immerse myself in the culture, see the extraordinary terrain, and work with some of the greatest minds at ETH. Additionally, one of my biggest hobbies and interests is powerlifting, and I knew before the project was announced that I wanted to incorporate this in some way. After hearing the theme of the project was "Out of Place", I immediately pictured Switzerland-like terrain with a barbell sitting at the top of the mountain. The juxtaposition begs the questions "How did the weights get there?" and "Why are they there?" ..." One of the fitness influencers I follow @discoverydeadlift does just this, and I will work to model an image around this idea. The rendering I currently picture will be a close up of the barbell and weights with a depth of field effect focused on the closest set of plates. The plates then will be sitting on a glossy wood weightlifting platform with a variety of rocks on the edge of a cliff, and the background will be out of focus but show a large range of snowy mountains. Throughout this project, I will implement a variety of features required for this rendering, and combine them all in the end for a final image.
For my final project, I worked to further extend Nori, the renderer we have been building up for ETH Zürich's Autumn 2022 Computer Graphics course. Through the process, I have implemented a variety of additional Simple and Advanced Features that can be seen on the following pages. Finally, I worked to put all of the new features together to create a final rendering based on my motivational image.
